What to Expect

Before Your Visit:

  • Write down your symptoms and any questions you’d like to discuss.
  • Make a list of all current medications and past surgeries.
  • Bring along any relevant medical records, test results, or imaging from other providers (such as X-rays, MRIs, or lab reports).
  • Contact your insurance company to confirm whether a referral is required.
  • If your concern is related to walking or physical activity, remember to bring your regular walking or exercise shoes to your appointment.

During Your Visit:

  • Review your list of questions with your podiatrist.
  • If something isn’t clear, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification.
  • Listen carefully and take notes during your visit.
  • Share details about your symptoms and any recent changes you’ve noticed.
  • Discuss any new medications you’re taking, including why they were prescribed and how you should take them.
  • Mention any allergies you have.
  • Let your podiatrist know if you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Inform your podiatrist about any other doctors currently involved in your care.

After Your Visit:

  • Follow any instructions to prepare for tests your podiatrist recommends.
  • Before leaving the office, schedule a follow-up appointment if one is needed.
  • If you haven’t received your test results within the expected time frame, contact your podiatrist’s office for an update.

Meet the Doctors

Dr. Raymond Brickhouse DPM, Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Dr. Raymond Brickhouse earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Howard University before obtaining his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed an intensive three-year Foot & Ankle Surgery Residency at Yale New Haven Medical Center.

Throughout his career, Dr. Brickhouse has received numerous honors, including the Podiatric Clinical Award in 2005, membership in the Sterling Harford Honorary Anatomical Society, and serving as a Board Member of the National Podiatric Medical Association in 2014. A lifelong learner and active contributor to the medical community, he currently serves as a Delta Sigma Theta Youth Mentoring Panelist and Medical Director at Mediplex Home Health.

Dr. Brickhouse is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), Missouri Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA), National Podiatric Medical Association (NPMA), and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Jacob Button DPM FACFAS, Foot and Ankle Surgeon

Dr. Jacob Button earned his degree in Interdepartmental Studies in Health Sciences from the University of Iowa. A proud Iowa Hawkeye, he is also a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, and his favorite baseball teams are the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians.

Outside the office, Dr. Button enjoys spending time with his niece, exploring new areas of the city with his Beagle, Lucy, and participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. He values working at Horizon Foot & Ankle Institute for its family-like atmosphere, where both staff and patients treat one another with respect, courtesy, and genuine care.

Dr. Nil Patel DPM, Foot and Ankle Surgeon

Dr. Nil Patel earned his degree in Biological Sciences from Drexel University before receiving his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University. He completed a rigorous three-year surgical residency at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago, serving as chief resident, with a focus on foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle procedures.

Board-qualified in foot, rearfoot, and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery, Dr. Patel is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American Society of Podiatric Surgeons, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is committed to evidence-based, patient-centered care and continually advances his expertise through professional development and specialized courses. Dr. Patel aims not only to help patients recover but to keep them active and healthy.

Outside the office, he enjoys spending time outdoors and caring for his pet cactus, Cory.

Dr. Zuhair Irfan DPM, Foot and Ankle Surgeon

Dr. Zuhair Irfan is a Board-Certified, Fellowship-trained podiatric surgeon specializing in foot and ankle deformity correction, minimally invasive surgery, and sports medicine. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality care, combining advanced surgical techniques with a compassionate approach to treat a wide range of podiatric conditions.

With extensive training and experience, Dr. Irfan delivers personalized solutions tailored to each patient’s needs, ensuring optimal outcomes and an improved quality of life. His commitment to excellence and patient-centered care makes him a trusted provider for foot and ankle health.

Outside of work, Dr. Irfan enjoys playing sports, attending concerts, and spending time with his two cats, Nacho and Nemo.
